MR Imaging of Desmoid Tumors
نویسنده
چکیده
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is the modality of choice for imaging desmoid tumors in most cases. MRI uses a series of complex, changing magnetic fields and low energy electromagnetic pulses (radiofrequency waves) to create images of the body. Unlike x-rays and CT scans, MRI emits no ionizing radiation. The standard MR imaging sequences that are used for soft tissue tumor imaging at my institution (Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center) are the following:

Huge Facial Desmoid Tumors with Neck Extension: A Case Report
Introduction: Desmoid tumors are very rare, benign fibrous neoplasms arise from the musculoaponeurotic structures throughout the body. Case Report: The patient was a seven-year old boy with a large mandibular mass growing over a period of six months. His CT-scan showed a large mass, 13 cm in diameter in the cheek area extending to the neck and trachea. Biopsy was compatible with desmoid fib...
متن کاملDynamic Contrast Magnetic Resonance Imaging (DCE-MRI) and Diffusion Weighted MR Imaging (DWI) for Differentiation between Benign and Malignant Salivary Gland Tumors
Background: Salivary gland tumors form nearly 3% of head and neck tumors. Due to their large histological variety and vicinity to facial nerves, pre-operative diagnosis and differentiation of benign and malignant parotid tumors are a major challenge for radiologists. Objective: The majority of these tumors are benign; however, sometimes they tend to transform into a malignant form. Functional M...
متن کاملDifferentiation of active tumor from edematous regions of glioblastoma multiform tumor in diffusion MR images using heterogeneity analysis method
Background: Due to intrinsic heterogeneity of cellular distribution and density within diffusion weighted images (DWI) of glioblastoma multiform (GBM) tumors, differentiation of active tumor and peri-tumoral edema regions within these tumors is challenging. The aim of this paper was to take advantage of the differences among heterogeneity of active tumor and edematous regions within the gliobla...
متن کاملThe Role of Somatostatin Receptor Scintigraphy on the Diagnosis of Desmoid Tumors
Background. Magnetic resonance imaging is considered as imaging modality of choice in diagnosis of desmoid tumors, though even this technique can lack the ability to distinguish aggressive fibromatosis from other benign or malignant soft tissue tumors. The aim of this study was to investigate if desmoid tumors would show an adequate tracer uptake in somatostatin receptor scintigraphy and moreov...
متن کاملDesmoid-Type Fibromatosis of the Thorax: CT, MRI, and FDG PET Characteristics in a Large Series From a Tertiary Referral Center
The purpose of this study was to describe the radiologic findings of computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, and ¹⁸F-fluorodeoxy glucose positron emission tomography (FDG PET) in desmoid-type fibromatosis of the thorax. We retrospectively evaluated 47 consecutive patients with pathologically proven desmoid-type fibromatosis from January 2005 to March 2015. Patients underwent ...
